Koronadal City, June 23, 2020 – The Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) of Mt. Matutum Protected Landscape leads the “Protect Mt. Matutum” Communication, Education and Public Awareness Campaign in Cebuano, Tupi South Cotabato on June 18, 2020.

“Protect Mt. Matutum” is a campaign devised by Mt. Matutum Local Government Unit representatives with the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) - Protect Wildlife Project.

The campaign aims to promote the protection and conservation of Mt. Matutum Protected Landscape (MMPL) including the Flagship species chosen by the Local Government Units by conducting information drives in the different barangays within the Protected Area (PA).

Mary Ann Tenorio, the Assistant Protected Area Superintendent (APASu) designate of Mt. Matutum said that “it is essential for the constituents to be aware of the salient features of the laws governing the Protected Area to help support the management and sustenance of the PA.”

The ten-year Protected Area Management Plan (PAMP) of Mt. Matutum will be laid out to the participants of the campaign including the prohibited acts and penalties as per Republic Act 11038 or the Expanded National Integrated Protected Area System Act.

Protect Mt. Matutum campaign will continue to run until the end of 2020 and will be conducted in selected barangays in Tupi, Tampakan, and Polomolok in South Cotabato and Malungon in Sarangani Province.###
