KORONADAL CITY – The employees of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for South Cotabato (DENR-South Cotabato) will donate part of their salaries for May to help the government address the Corona Virus Disease (COVID) – 19 pandemic.

To facilitate the donation, the DENR Employees Union (DENREU)-South Cotabato Chapter advanced the whole amount of the pledges, with the approval of its Board of Directors.

On April 14, 2020, Mr. Radzak B. Sinarimbo, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) of South Cotabato, personally handed the check amounting to P54,655 to LGU – South Cotabato’s Operations and Warning Section Chief, Arvin Librado.

The simple turn-over was held at the Emergency Operations Center of the South Cotabato Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) located in Barangay Zone IV, Koronadal City. It was witnessed by DENREU – South Cotabato Chapter President Norhayda Abas-Zainal,EnP and some of the employees of PENRO South Cotabato and PDRRMO.

Librado expressed his thanks to PENRO Sinarimbo and his team for the much-needed donation. According to Librado, the contribution will be turned over to the COVID Center and will be used to purchase Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the front liners.

The donation represented the contribution of the regular personnel of PENRO South Cotabato, and Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Banga headed by CENRO Abunawas B. Abduladsis.

“The office has already provided assistance to its employees, hence it is high time for us to lend a helping hand to the government in the fight against COVID - 19,” PENRO Sinarimbo added.

It can be recalled that the DENREU South Cotabato Chapter provided cash aid amounting to Php3,000 pesos each to its more than a hundred members in March 2020.

Likewise, the DENR Provincial Office (also called PENRO) for South Cotabato, in compliance with the memorandum issued by the DENR Assistant Regional Director, Mama G. Samaon distributed multivitamins, face masks and isopropyl alcohol to the regular and contractual personnel.

Sanitary measures including office steaming and installation of footbath and sink as wash area were also executed.

The initiatives of the office will hopefully motivate everyone to take part in the efforts undertaken by the government, non governmental organizations (NGOs), and the private sector in fighting this pandemic.

No less than President Rodrigo Roa Duterte committed his one-month salary while majority of his cabinet officials promised to donate 75 percent of their monthly pay to help the country deal with COVID – 19.

In this time of public health emergency, we can only heal as one by setting aside our ideological, philosophical and political differences. Everyone is affected and each one needs continuous support and understanding. (Princess Kate A. Farrol & Manuela C. Locsin)
